Dharmaadhyakshah – He is the Lord of Dharma

Dharma Adharmau Saaakshaat eekshate anuroopam phalam datum tasmaat Dharmaadhyakshah He continuously monitors both acts of Dharma and Adharma which are being committed so that he can give appropriate fruits of action.

The Supreme Lord is the one who presides over all our actions and grants us fruits according to the Dharmic acts performed by us. Acts against Dharma or those which are Adharmic acts are punished. The Lord always ensures that one who acts in accordance with Dharma does not go unrewarded.

We see in the Mahabharatha itself, how Krishna protects the Pandavas always as they are on the path of Dharma or righteousness, whereas the Kauravas, always on the path of Adharma were punished by Krishna at the Kurukshetra war. In this war all the Kauravas and their friends/allies were killed and the righteous Pandavas were victorious. The Lord has an account of all the acts performed by each and every entity. The good is always rewarded and the bad is always punished. Krishna rewarded even Putana the demon by giving her liberation just for her act of feeding milk to Him though she had smeared poison. Like wise, even Ajamila the Brahmana though he called out only his son’s name- Narayana at the time of his death, the Lord still recognized this and took it that he had called out His name and so Ajamila was given a second chance to self-realise and seek the Lord.

Lets chant the Holy Name of the one who is the Lord of Dharma and seek His mercy to live a righteous life and lead a life in the path of Dharma. The Lord has a record of all acts, He punishes sometimes in the same birth and at times it is reserved for a later birth. But, simply chanting the Holy name of the Lord purifies us and we would perform all acts on the path of Dharma.
