Vishnusahasranama

Sriman: One with a lovely form.

Sriman is that form of the Lord on whose chest rests Sri or Lakshmidevi. Lakshmidevi always rests on the chest of the Lord and never leaves Him.

śriyo nivāso yasyoraḥ pāna-pātraṁ mukhaṁ dṛśām

bāhavo loka-pālānāṁ sāraṅgāṇāṁ padāmbujam (SB 1.11.26)

The Lord’s chest is the abode of the goddess of fortune. His moonlike face is the drinking vessel for eyes which hanker after all that is beautiful. His arms are the resting places for the administrative demigods. And His lotus feet are the refuge of pure devotees who never talk or sing of any subject except His Lordship.

Sriman also means the beautiful form of the Lord. In the previous Nama/Holy Name we saw the Lord take up the ferocious form (for the Asuras). But here it is said the Lord has the most beautiful form that captivates everyone’s heart.

venum kvanantam aravinda-dalayataksham barhavatamsam asitambuda- sundarangam

kandarpa-koti-kaminiya-vishesha-shobham govindam adi-purusham tam aham bhajami (Bs 5.30)

“I worship Govinda, the primeval Lord, who is adept at playing on His flute, who has blooming eyes like lotus petals, whose head is bedecked with a peacock feather, whose figure of beauty is tinged with the hue of blue clouds, and whose unique loveliness charms millions of cupids”.

Lets chant the Holy Name and pray to strive the lord as sincerely as Lakshmidevi, and lets loose our heart to His most enchanting and captivating form and not to anyone or anything else in this world.
