Krshnah: One who has a dark-blue complexion and all attractive

The most important form of the Supreme Lord is Krishna. This form is completely spiritual and has complete spiritual bliss. This form of the Lord is extremely beautiful just like the atasi flower.

kṛṣir bhū-vācakaḥ śabdo ṇaś ca nirvṛti-vācakaḥ

tayor aikyaṁ paraṁ brahma kṛṣṇa ity abhidhīyate (CC Madhya 9.30)

The word “kṛṣ” is the attractive feature of the Lord’s existence, and “ṇa” means spiritual pleasure. When the verb “kṛṣ” is added to the affix “ṇa,” it becomes “Kṛṣṇa,” which indicates the Absolute Truth.

This is a verse from the Mahābhārata (Udyoga-parva 71.4).

The Lord Himself has confirmed that this name Krishna is the most important one.

Krishna also means the dark colour. Andal in Thiruppavai says in the first Pasuram describes the Lord as ‘Kaar Meni Sengan Kadhir Madhiyam pol Mugathan which means One who is with a dark cloud-like complexion, Lotus red eyed and lustrous face shining like the Sun and calm like the Moon.

Krishna is the All attractive, where anyone or anything is attracted to His ever youthful beauty.

bahūni santi nāmāni rūpāṇi ca sutasya te

guṇa-karmānurūpāṇi tāny ahaṁ veda no janāḥ (SB 10.8.15)

For this son of yours there are many forms and names according to His transcendental qualities and activities. These are known to me, but people in general do not understand them.

If we analyze the nirukti, or semantic derivation, of the word “Kṛṣṇa,” we find that na signifies that He stops the repetition of birth and death, and kṛṣ means sattārtha, or “existence.” (Kṛṣṇa is the whole of existence.) Also, kṛṣ means “attraction,” and na means ānanda, or “bliss.” Kṛṣṇa is known as Mukunda because He wants to give everyone spiritual, eternal, blissful life.

This name of the Lord is so attractive just as Him, this name is associated with Vrindavan, with Srimati Radharani, with His dear devotees the Pandavas, with Rukminidevi and so on.

Lets chant the Holy Name of this bluish complexioned all attractive Lord and seek His mercy to remove all our dark sins which He can accept very easily in His dark complexion. May we always carry His all attractive form in our mind and heart at all times. It is said that even the worst sinner’s sins are washed away by Krishna just by chanting His name and offering devotional service to Him.

Easy it is to chant “Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
