Samvatsara means year, which is a unit of time. There are sixty Samvatsaras and each samvatsara is denoted by a name. Time is the most important force in this Universe. Without Time nothing happens in this universe. Time controls everyone and everything and Krishna controls Time.
maitreya uvāca
guṇa-vyatikarākāro nirviśeṣo ’pratiṣṭhitaḥ
puruṣas tad-upādānam ātmānaṁ līlayāsṛjat (SB 3.10.11)
Maitreya said: Eternal time is the primeval source of the interactions of the three modes of material nature. It is unchangeable and limitless, and it works as the instrument of the Supreme Personality of Godhead for His pastimes in the material creation.
This time factor is the material cause of creation and is therefore a self-expansion of the Personality of Godhead. Time is considered the impersonal feature of the Lord.
śrī-bhagavān uvāca
kālo ’smi loka-kṣaya-kṛt pravṛddho lokān samāhartum iha pravṛttaḥ
ṛte ’pi tvāṁ na bhaviṣyanti sarve ye ’vasthitāḥ praty-anīkeṣu yodhāḥ (bg 11.32)
The Supreme Personality of Godhead said: Time I am, the great destroyer of the worlds, and I have come here to destroy all people. With the exception of you [the Pāṇḍavas], all the soldiers here on both sides will be slain.
Time is relative. A year in higher planetary systems is much longer than a year on earth, and beings on higher planets live for extremely long periods of time by our estimation. Although one might assume that time is a fundamental aspect of reality, it is in fact a feature only of the material world. Time as we know it does not exist in the spiritual world. Everything and everyone in this material world is under the control of Time. With Time everything and everyone change. People who might be the best of the friends today might just move away with Time. No friendship or relationship can be eternal as Time is the controller of all and everyone. People change with Time, which is very true as Time changes all. But, when one is situated in the Devotional service and is on the path of Bhakti with the understanding that Krishna is Himself Time, nothing bewilders or scares Him as He will realize that This too shall Pass… Time will change the phase.
Lets chant the Holy Name of the controller of Time, who is Time personified Himeself and seek to be in His devotional service eternally – all through Time and beyond.
