Pratyayah: One who can be relied upon

Prateeyate asmin iti pratyayah – One in whom we can place confidence – as said by Parashara Bhattar.

In the Ramayana, Sugreeva became friends with lord Rama and sought His help to vanquish his elder brother the mighty Vaali. But, Sugreeva is overcome with doubtmregarding Rama’s power.

Sugreeva describes to Lord Rama about Vaali’s valour and narrates about a fight between Vaali and Dundubhi – the buffalo demon. He hurled the buffalo demon and it fell on the Rishyamukha mountain. Rama saw the skeleton of this Dhundhubhi and just touched it with the tip of His feet and the skeleton went hurtling away into space. He proved Himself by shooting an arrow which pierced seven sala trees with one arrow itself. Sugreeva was now assured and confirmed about Rama’s valour to vanquish Vaali.

The lord thus proved His reliability. He is the person one can have confidence upon.

Let’s chant the Holy Name of the most reliable person. He is the only person whom any living entity can rely upon with complete confidence, for He will never let them down. Lets rely on Him to guide us and hold us steady in our devotional service. We can confide only in Him and He will keep all of that with Him in all confidence. There is no one else whom we can rely on with all the confidence as everyone at some point in time will turn un reliable and break the confidence.
