He who is the personification of Dharma and Varaha
Vrishakapih – The protector of Dharma
Vrisha means Dharma. Kapi means boar where paa means to protect and ka means water, so kapi means Varaha Avatar. Lord Varaha protects Motehr Earth- Bhumievi by lifting her from the depths of the ocean.
Kapir Varahas shreshttascha Dharmascha Vrisha Uchyate; Tasmaat Vrishaakapim Praaha Kaashyapo Mam Prajapatih (Mahabharatam)
Kapih denotes the Varaha Avatar and Dharma is called Vrisha; therefore Kashyapa Prajaapati called me Vrishaakapih.
The Supreme Lord appeared in the form of a boar to kill the asura Hiranyaksha as he had obtained a boon from Brahma that he will not be killed by a Devata, a human being or an Asura. The Lord appeared in a gigantic form which was the size of the space between earth and the sky and had tusks which were huge. The Lord dove down in the ocean to lift and retrieve mother earth. He placed Bhumi Devi in a safe place and thus protected her and then went back to a fight with Hiranyaksha who was obstructing His path. The Lord and the Asura had a huge mace fight. After a fight lasting thousand years, Lord Varaha slayed the asura.
The Lord lifted Bhumi Devi gently on His tusks and placed her in her original position very safely. He protected her and thus protected dharma. He lifted her from the depths of Adharma and brought back the Dharma.
Lets chant the Holy Name of the protector of Dharma and seek His blessings to remain in the path of Dharma always. Lets pray to this glorious Varaha Roopam and let His Holy Name lift us from this material world and place us at His Lotus feet.
