Sammitah means that He is the One Truth who is accepted by the Rishis and revealed in the Upanishads.
Sammita or Asammita is interpreted as Sarvairapi Arthajaataih Paricchinnah Sammitah – He has been (inadequately) measured in various different ways’. The latter is ‘Sarvaih aparicchinnah amitah Asammitah – He is unlimited or immeasurable’ (Sri AdiShankaracharya)
Sammitah also means – One who has let His devotees control Him and understand Him. He is also the Ultimate Truth, accepted by Rishis and He is revealed in the Upanishads.
The Supreme Personality, Krishna willingly accepted the role of being ‘controlled’ by Kausalya, Dasharatha as Sri Ramachandra, and by Yasoda, Nanda Maharaj as Sri Krishna and so on. He chose the parents to whom He was going to be born, and then ‘played’ the role of a child willingly for them.
Devotees express their love to the Supreme Lord in five ways –
Santa Rasa – Reverence
Dasya Rasa – Loving Service
Sakya Rasa – Friendship
Vatsalya Rasa – Parental Affection
Madhurya Rasa – Conjugal/Intimate Affection
By such true Rasa and Bhakti, a devotee can control the Supreme Lord although the devotee never intends to do that. The Lord reciprocates the true bhava of the devotee and appears to be under the devotee’s control. A true and pure devotee always looks to be in the Dasya Rasa, ie.e. as a loving servant.
Lets chant the Holy Name of the immeasurable and seek to have immeasurable love for Him at all times.
