Vishnusahasranama

Vishva-yonih – One who unites His devotees with Himself

Yoni is a derivative of the word Yu which means to unite. Yoni therefore means union. Vishva is the world of the universe. So Vishvayonih is the Union of this entire universe with the Lord.

In the Rama avatara of the Lord, He was separated from His wife Sitadevi when she was tricked and kidnapped by the demon Ravana. Lord Sri Ramachandra and His brother Lakshmana were searching for Sitadevi, met Hanuman, Sugriva. As per the promise after Sugriva got back his kingdom from Vali, Hanuman and others set out in search of Sitadevi. Hanuman was the only one who could take the longest jump to reach Lanka and eventually locate Sitadevi. Once Hanuman got back and informed Lord Rama about seeing Sitadevi. The Lord was so immensely pleased with His devotee, He just hugged him. This made Hanuman ecstatic. This is the Divine Union of the devotee with Lord.

One of the Srivaishnava Saints Thiruppan Alwar though from a low caste family of Pamaras, composed wonderful hymns on the Lord.

Kondal vannanaik kovalanay venney Unda vayan en ullam kavarndhaanai
Andarkon aNi arangan en amudhinaik Kanda kangal marronrinaik kanave

The dark-hued Lord is the One who came as a cowherd lad and stole butter. He is the Lord of Gods and of Arangam also. He has stolen my heart.  After seeing my Lord and experiencing ambrosial delight, my eyes will see nothing else.

After such a wonderful composition, Thiruppan Alwar was liberated by the Supreme Lord. This is a Divine union of the Lord and His devotee. Without the Lord’s will, no one can be united with Him.  He is Visvayoni because He unites His devotees with Himself. The Lord does not see whether the devotee is Highly qualified, his caste, his creed, his age and so on. The Lord only see the true Devotion and Love of His true and pure devotees ireespective of their age, wealth, caste, creed.

Lets chant the Holy Name of the Divine Uniter and seek to be in His union always and at all times, by always being in the devotional path strongly.
