Sasvata means Eternal and Sthanuh means steady.
The nectar or amrutam obtained during the Samudra Mathana – churning of the ocean is said to make a person eternal or immortal. This nectar was sought for by both Devas and Demons. The Devas had kept this nectar with them safe guarded. Garuda’s mother Vinuta was captured by her sister Kadri and her sons the nagas, to release her, they demanded Garuda to get them the Amrutha/nectar. Garuda went to Devaloka, fought with everyone and got the nectar, on his way to give the amrutha to Kadri and her sons, he just tasted it to find out why this was so much in demand. The nectar tasted bitter. Later after his mother was released, he wondered what is it that is the real nectar or Amrutham. When he was in such thoughts and was flying, he saw the Divine Lord in all His splendor and just stood with folded hands infront of Him and realized he had found his answer. There is nothing more sweeter and there is no other Nectar than the Nectar of His beauty- the Supreme Lord. This Lord is always Eternal and Steady, does not change with Time nor is He affected by any other situations or conditions.
Lets chant the Holy Name of this Eternal and Steady Lord and seek His mercy to keep us always steady in our devotional service towards Him
